Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar, currently in a comatose state at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, may be transferred to AIIMS-New Delhi for advanced treatment. Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling visited Majumdar, assuring his family of specialized consultations with Delhi. The 54-year-old was admitted on September 4th with multiple health issues, including Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome and pneumonia.

Bhubaneswar: Popular Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar, who is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar in a comatose state, is likely to be shifted to AIIMS-New Delhi for advanced medical care. Health minister Mukesh Mahaling visited Majumdar in the hospital on Sunday and reviewed his health conditions with doctors and family members. He assured them that for specialised care, consultations with AIIMS Delhi will also be arranged.The 54-year-old composer was admitted to AIIMS emergency on Sept 4 in a comatose condition and has since been on ventilator support. He was later shifted to the medical ICU under the supervision of ICU and ECMO specialist at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, Srikant Behera.According to hospital sources, Majumdar, who has multiple comorbid conditions, including hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease, was found to be suffering from Osmotic Demyelination Syndrome (both pontine and extrapontine), bilateral pneumonia, bloodstream infection due to Acinetobacter (MDRO), dyselectrolytemia, and nutritional deficiencies.Currently, the composer remains comatose with a glasgow soma scale (GCS) reading of E2, VT, M2-3, and is on mechanical ventilation. Doctors managed to stabilise his kidney and liver functions while correcting electrolyte abnormalities. He is being administered culture-directed antibiotics and is under continuous supportive care as per standard protocol. “His vitals are stable at present,” said Dr Srikant Behera, who is leading the treatment.Majumdar, who composed music for numerous blockbuster Odia films, enjoys a massive fan following across the state. Well-wishers and members of the film fraternity have expressed concern and prayed for his speedy recovery.
